Mac Keyboard Guide
Incorporate a USB PC Keyboard
Here, we verify Apple's support of the USB HID standards.
A Compaq USB keyboard and mouse were unceremoniously swiped from a spouse’s circa-1997 Compaq iPaq PC. The keyboard contains a number of non-standard buttons which originally were used launch applications; the mouse is a standard two-button mechanical mouse, with scroll wheel. A Logitech optical mouse was similarly liberated from the spouse’s Thinkpad.
They all work. The keyboards automatically acquire Apple’s PC keymappings, and the USB mice behave identically as in the PS/2 test. We could not use the Compaq keyboard’s unique buttons for anything on the Mac.
